Overview

Types of Asset Tracking

Before getting started, you'll need to be familiar with a couple of asset tracking terms and types below.

Mutli vs Single Floor Asset Tracking

  • Multi-Floor Asset Tracking: Multi-floor asset tracking allows you to toggle between different levels (or floors) of a building, parking garage, etc, and see the location of your assets within that floor.

  • Single-Floor Asset Tracking: Single-floor asset tracking shows you all of your assets on the same layer within the map.

Indoor vs Outdoor Asset Tracking

  • Outdoor Asset Tracking: Outdoor asset tracking is ready to go out of the box with our RecovR Locator. The Locator reports its GPS position over a cellular network to our system. We then take that latitude and longitude to display the vehicle's position on the map.

  • Indoor Asset Tracking: Indoor asset tracking requires installing the RecovR beacons inside your building, parking garage, etc. We'll be able to position the Locator based on its proximity to the beacon and know its general position indoors. Please note that for indoor positioning, we only know it's in a given zone, but not necessarily where it is within that zone.

Multi-Floor Setup

Step 1: Floor Creation (Handled by RecovR)

To set up Multi-Floor location tracking, you'll start with creating each floor. Every floor needs a name and a level (1-N). For an example, refer to the image below where we've set up 4 floors.

In general, your floors will be created and managed for you by the RecovR installation team. If you need to make any changes to the number of floors you have, please contact support.

Step 2: Zone Creation

Before proceeding to this step, please ensure you've contacted RecovR support if any changes must be made to your floors. You can create zones by opening the menu next to the page title.

This will put the map into editor mode, where you can draw your zone on the map. Then, you'll be prompted to fill out the rest of the zone information (Name, Type, Description) in a form. Once the zone is created, you can assign it to a floor using the drop-down in the table. (Note: If your table does not show a dropdown in the floor column, open the settings icon in the top right corner of the table and select "Editable"). You can then select the floor this zone should be on.

Step 3: Beacon Assignment

If you have not activated or installed your beacons, head over to our article on Beacon Activation and Installation.

Once you've created your zones, you'll want to assign Beacons to your indoor zones. To do this, head to the Beacons page in the Installation and Setup section. There, you can quickly and easily select which zone the Beacon is installed in using the dropdown in the zones column.

Single-Floor Setup

Step 1: Zone Creation

You can create zones by opening the menu next to the page title. Watch the demo video below to learn how to create and edit a zone.

This will put the map into editor mode, where you can draw your zone on the map. Then, you'll be prompted to fill out the rest of the zone information (Name, Type, Description) in a form.

Step 2: Beacon Assignment

If you have not activated or installed your beacons, head over to our article on Beacon Activation and Installation.

Once you've created your zones, you'll want to assign Beacons to your indoor zones. To do this, head to the Beacons page in the Installation and Setup section. There, you can quickly and easily select which zone the Beacon is installed in using the dropdown in the zones column.
