You can create vehicles using two methods: Individual Vehicle Creation, and Bulk Create via CSV.

Individual Vehicle Creation

Users will see a form to create a new vehicle in the RecovR UI. When the user enters a VIN, the VIN will automatically be decoded by our VIN decoding service, ClearVIN. This autofills the fields for, Make, Model, Year, Style, and Trim.

⚠️ ClearVIN has most makes and models dealerships keep in stock, but some new models (e.g. coming out this year) may not be added to their database yet. In this instance, users will receive an error message informing them that the VIN could not be decoded. They must enter the make, model, year, trim, and style by typing it into the form.

Required fields for vehicle creation include:

  • VIN

  • Stock Number

  • Color

  • Type

If your vehicle's VIN already exists in the system, please contact customer support.

Bulk Vehicle Creation

You can create vehicles in bulk using a pre-formatted CSV. When opening the Bulk Create Vehicles form, you'll have the option to download a CSV template. This file contains a number of vehicle fields. You can fill out the cells below these fields with the values of your new vehicles, then upload the updated CSV file. Keep in mind that the only required fields are:

Regardless of which CSV option a user chooses, once they upload the CSV, they will be prompted to map all of the CSV columns to vehicle attributes in our system. This ensures all vehicle data is correctly setup.

⚠️ While the upload is in progress, please do not close the tab. You will be able to track the progress in the loading screen.

Once all the vehicles are uploaded you will be able to see a summary. If any error were detected they will be listed and the user can download an error csv report. Reasons a Vehicle may have not been able to be created include:

  • Invalid fields: If the value does not match the type (eg: if the value in the csv contains letters and the attribute is of type number)

  • Missing fields: If that row of the csv was missing one of the required fields (VIN, Stock Number, Color)

  • Duplicate: If a vehicle with this VIN has already been created on the dealer network in the system
