Beacon Q&A

Which beacons are reported by the locator ?

Locators will only search for a nearby beacon if it cannot obtain good location accuracy from its GPS scan. In this case the locator will attribute its position to the strongest beacon signal it receives.

Why does the locator not report the closest/nearest beacon ?

A beacons signal may be subject to interference by obstacles between the beacon and the locator, in this case the beacon with the strongest signal may not be the one physically closest to the locator.

My locator is not receiving a beacon signal

As already mentioned, the locator will only check for beacon signal when not receiving any GPS signal. In this case only the strongest beacon signal received is recorded for positioning.

Why does my locator not show any beacon ?

If a locator receives a suitable GPS signal, it will not try to receive beacon signals.

When a locator is positioned indoors and not receiving a GPS signal, it will try to resolve its position from nearby beacons and if none are received cell data.

The locator will periodically retry up to a maximum interval period of 24h depending upon it status.

How often and when does a locator search for a beacon signal ?

The locator will resolves its location a short period after motion has finished. It will report its position periodically every 24h when not being moved.

My locator does not report the beacon where it is parked.

Please see the explanations above, for position reporting frequency.

How do I know my beacons are working ?

When being installed, the technical team will ensure the beacons are working as expected.

There should not be any action required until a battery replacement is required. Batteries will last from 2 up to 5 years after installation (version dependant). Battery levels can be see in the Lot User Management UI. Once a battery level starts to fall from 100% it is nearing end of life and will require replacement.

If you still have doubts, we kindly ask you to open a support ticket and we help you for clarification.

Battery of Beacon

How can I verify the battery level of my Beacon ?

You can see the battery level of your Beacon in the Lot Management UI.

How to change the battery of a Beacon ?

The beacon uses battery type - CR2477. Replacement batteries should only be of the same type to avoid damaging the device.

To replace the battery:

Open the Beacon by turning the lid anti-clockwise.

Remove the white foam protection and carefully push the battery out from its metal housing (this can most easily be achieved using the edge of a bank card).

Insert the new battery with the writing side visible.

Press the small button and hold until a blue light can be seen to turn the device on.

Replace the white foam to hold the battery securely in place and screw the lid on securely.

The beacon is now ready to be replaced in the location that it was in previously.
